Will we someday go to the Moon, Mars, and beyond and colonize space?

Or will we be Earthbound forever? Will we find a way to make doing the above mentioned possible? Or will the Left (today's Left not the brilliant JFK) and the science-and-technology-hating environmental movement prevent it?
