What is the philosophy behind bigotry and hatred? Is there a specific design in mankinds brains that does this

It is relevant in behavior of people and their biased opinions, I am curious do these people have joy in their lives? Or do they get that sick satisfaction from hatred? Do they thrive on the hatred? Is it an excuse for their pathetic existance?
