Ipod Formatting?

Hi my mom eventually gave me her iPod to replace mine.. But the thing is her laptop isnt a mac, so the ipod is windows formatted. I have a mac so how do i change the format? i cant see any option to change the format from windows to macintosh, and when i click preferences i dont see an ipod tab. Any help?
